The Technical Consultant is responsible for working with data center owners, operators, engineers, and client senior management in order to provide unparalleled mission critical environment consulting related to facility infrastructure. Duties include conducting reviews of data center designs, documentation, or built environments to determine compliance with owner’s stated Tier functionality objectives and long-term operations goals in accordance with Tier Standard: Topology. Conduct on-site reviews of data center facility management processes and procedures against the Tier Standard: Operational Sustainability requirements. Develop narrative- based reports, memos, or other deliverables that, in a clear, concise, and accurate fashion, document both shortcomings and solutions to achieving owner’s expected outcomes. Meet with data center teams, as required, to discuss findings and recommendations regarding all critical subsystems and their operation. Develop Tier Standard-based requirements documents for new data center facilities or major upgrades. Evaluate the following data center subsystems:

  • Critical Power Distribution
  • Cooling Plant
  • Computer Room Cooling
  • Fire Suppression
  • Physical Security
  • Lightning Protection

  • Fuel Storage and Distribution
  • Fire Detection

Evaluate the following data center management processes

  • Staffing
  • Maintenance
  • Training
  • Life Cycle Planning
  • Financial Management
  • Space, Power and Cooling

In order to be successful in this position, Uptime Institute Professional Services is looking for candidates with the following credentials and experience:


  • 5 – 10 years of experience managing and operating a data center’s facility infrastructure with specific experience in the processes delineated above
  • A desire for domestic and international travel
  • A motivation to learn detailed aspects of data center operations in order to advance in the company
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree


  • Engineering degree (mechanical, electrical, civil, industrial, facilities)
  • Facility Management degree
