Best Practices for Promoting Your Uptime Institute Achievements

To help you showcase your accomplishments accurately and confidently, please keep the following best practices in mind when preparing your promotional materials:

Use Your Original Award Foil

Please use the official foil provided by Uptime Institute when promoting your award. Do not make edits or alterations to the foil or create any new foil designs. If you notice any inconsistencies or have questions about your foil, your sales representative is happy to assist.

Digital Badges

The foil provided in your award letter can serve as a digital badge, allowing you to highlight your verified Uptime Institute achievement online.

Refer to Uptime Institute Correctly

For consistency and clarity, please refer to our organization as Uptime Institute. Common misuses to avoid include:

  • Including "The" in our name, example: “The Uptime Institute”
  • Incorrect capitalization such as “UpTime Institute”
  • It is okay to use just "Uptime" after the first full usage of Uptime Institute

Use the Full and Correct Name of Your Award

When mentioning your certification or award, please use the full official name. This ensures your customers, partners, and investors can accurately identify your achievement.

Examples include:

  • Tier Certification of Design Documents (TCDD)
  • Tier Certification of Constructed Facility (TCCF)
  • Tier Certification of Operational Sustainability (TCOS)
  • Management & Operations Stamp of Approval Award (M&O Stamp of Approval Award)
  • Tier-Ready Program
  • Uptime Institute Sustainability Assessment

Avoid Statements About Reliability Guarantees

While Uptime Institute Tier Certification awards do validate the design, construction, or operational sustainability of your facility, they do not certify, measure, or guarantee a specific performance outcome, such as “99% uptime,” “five-nines reliability,” or any other availability percentage. Please avoid any language that implies Uptime’s Certifications guarantee a particular uptime level or operational result.

Corporate Communications

Your organization’s recent achievements can also be shared with your employees, partners, investors and stakeholders as part of your ongoing communications. This could include making internal announcements to employees while using new or existing communication channels to ensure that they can participate and share in your good news. Examples include newsletters and annual reports.

Internal Communications:
Clients have shared the process of certification they have gone through with individual or multiple data center sites, showcasing the significance of the achievement and highlighting the impact it brings to the organization.

Company Newsletters:
Newsletters are another good way to communicate achievements to staff. Your announcement in a newsletter could be a derivative of a press release, a case study, or simply a few sentences explaining the process and the significance of the achievement.

Here is some example copy for a newsletter:
We are pleased to announce that (Company) is further extending our push for excellence and have achieved Uptime Institute’s (list award here), validating that our organization now meets global standards to demonstrate our strong commitment to existing and future customers. Our exemplary team worked directly with Uptime experts to complete the assessment, utilizing and adding best practices. We continue to learn and improve, with the opportunity to go deep into each step of our technical and operational processes and activities. We have been able to change some internal training processes and build upon Uptime's recommendations. We are proud of our internal teams and what we have been able to accomplish.

Training Materials:
Most companies have some form of formal training for new employees or when existing staff transition from one department to another. The onboarding and continuous training materials developed by organizations is yet another great opportunity to educate company staff on organizational achievements, awards and certifications.

Annual Reports:
When annual reports are created, include a description of your achievement along with the foil image. This provides additional exposure to stakeholders and emphasizes the significance and value the achievement presents to your organization.
