Global Leadership:

• Fidelity Investments implemented a strategic plan that resulted in 20% energy reduction in IT loads across all of the company's data center environments.  These optimization efforts consolidated 80 server room locations down to 12, and avoided the need for a 2.5 MW data center project that was in the design phase.
• Morgan Stanley developed a multidisciplinary IT and Facilities team, the Enterprise Data Center (EDC) organization. By implementing a highly integrated approach, Morgan Stanley has improved efficiency across all facets of its data center operations, from design, commissioning and procurement, to operations and management, in North America, EMEA and APAC.
• Telefónica Global Technologies developed a corporate standard for new data centers, based upon a modular approach to data center design and construction that could be predictably implemented in multiple regions of the world. TGT prioritized efficiency, financial viability, a system of accountability for the project teams, and a world-class result for its internal and external clients.

Data Center Design:

• LG CNS's Busan facility is a containerized data center that includes a chimney style hot-air exhaust and hybrid cooling system, which the company developed itself and applied for the first time in Korea. The LG Facilities Management staff manages this unique system to achieve eight months free cooling. (APAC) *Tie
• Taiwan Mobile completed a 1.5 MW, Uptime Institute Tier III Certified Constructed Facility. The site has a projected PUE of 1.42 versus an estimated average PUE of 2.0 in Taiwan, and makes use of multiple energy efficiency features and equipment. (APAC) *Tie
• Portugal Telecom's Covilha data center includes multiple innovative solutions, including free cooling and unique access control system. Modular construction allows the deployment to grow with business needs, reducing energy waste. The facility also includes a 500-kW photovoltaic system. (EMEA)
• Sonda, L&M Engenharia, and Aceco TI developed a new data center (Tier III-certified for both design and construction) that implements a free cooling system meets the challenges posed by local temperatures that can go as low as -6.0 ° C and a high level of particulates caused by volcanic activity and thermal inversions. (Latin America)
• eBay, Winter Street Architects, AHA Consulting Engineers, DPR Construction and T|S|P Project Management evolved eBay's familiar modular concept and introduced a revolutionary approach to the delivery of critical power, integration of 100% on-site power generation through the use of solid oxide fuel cells as the source for primary critical power. (North America)

Data Center Facilities Management:

• CenturyLink developed a rigorous facilities management program in order to maintain consistent availability and efficiency across a varied and changing footprint around the globe. These standards have been modeled in the ITIL spirit, and are the result of years of planning, consideration, trial and error. (APAC)
• Entel formed an interdisciplinary team to improve data center energy efficiency and reliability in its Tier III Certified Facility in Chile. The team solved bypass airflow problems, water treatment issues, and raised inlet air temperatures on IT equipment, resulting in significant savings. (Latin America)
• Kaiser Permanete founded an interdisciplinary team to evaluate and benchmark the company's legacy data centers. The team identified and implemented numerous opportunities to improve efficiencies across the portfolio, while promoting participation and buy-in across a diverse set of stakeholders within the company. (North America)

IT Systems Efficiency:

• Chemical Abstracts Service, AEP Ohio and Willdan Energy Solutions addressed business requirements that necessitated the development of a new high-performance compute cluster. Through utility incentives, the organization was able to procure high-density, power-efficient IT equipment, reducing the amount of physical servers originally estimated for the project by 55%, significantly reducing infrastructure demands, while maintaining the required performance and reliability. (North America)

Operational Data Center Upgrade:

• Petroleum Geo-Services and Keysource completed the first phase of a data center upgrade project in 2008. Growing IT consumption and changing business demands led PGS to make its requirements for the second phase more demanding than those used for the original design. The challenge was to improve the performance of one of the most efficient facilities in Europe, without affecting availability in a live environment. (EMEA)
• Itau Unibanco implemented a state-of-the-art sewage treatment system for a legacy data center located in a commercial office building. The project reduced the site’s public water consumption by 35% and entirely ceases public sewer processing, resulting in a five year payback on the system. (Latin America)
• DTCC, Gensler, and JFK&M Consulting engaged in a major renovation of one of DTCC's core production data centers, located in Manhattan's Financial District. As a result of a review of its data center portfolio and capital investment appetite, DTCC's senior management chose to perform a data center renovation in lieu of data center replacement. The net capital cost savings reaped was estimated to be more than $70 million. (North America)

Product Solutions:

• Department of Finance and Services (DFS) - New South Wales, Australia, Metronode, and Bladeroom addressed the DFS's urgent need to improve service quality, availability and reliability of its data centers. The agency put a rigorous procurement process in place and deployed an innovative modular solution by Bladeroom, in partnership with Metronode. (APAC)
• Digital Realty, Cundall, eXcool, and Nicholas Webb Architects worked to implement eXcool's indirect outside air cooling technology for Digital's Profile Park facility in Ireland. The product met Digital's stringent business requirements, while improving projected PUE from 1.6 with chilled water to 1.15 with this cooling solution.(EMEA)
• Compass Datacenters used Romonet's software to model the performance of various data center equipment and design options, factoring climatic conditions and utility costs, into a 10-year TCO calculation, maximizing the efficiency of the sites as well as the company's capital expenditures. (North America)
